Cert Day at City Hall

Cert Day at City Hall

January saw the staff and trainees visit City Hall to receive Fetac Certification from  Cllr. Catherine Clancy, Lord Mayor of Cork. The young people gained certification relating to the four Fetac Full Awards available at the centre; Information Communication Technology Skills, Pathways to Employment (at Level Four) and Employability Skills and Culinary Skills (at Level 3).

We were delighted that John Clohessy and Noel Bridgeman of the Board of Management, Enda McWeeney (Cork Area Training Manager),  Liz Stack of the Cork Training Centre, and John Fitzgibbon of the ETBI were able to join us in recognising the great achievement and effort put in by all the young people present

John Clohessy, The Chairman of the Board of Management was present for the awarding of certificates by Martin Brennan of Proactive Management, Cork who ran a series of Team Building Workshops with the Business Skills and Construction Skills Group. Both groups are participating in a European Funded project entitled ‘ArtOut’ which involves developing their photography and digital media skills while exploring issues of identity and European citizenship.

Martin spoke warmly of his time with the young people and stressed how useful the areas covered will help them in the world of work. Joe Rodgers of HUSCIE Ireland, the Irish partner in the project, also complimented the efforts of the students, and reminded the group that four of them will be chosen to represent the centre at an exhibition to be held in Berlin this May.

The Mayfield Community Training Centre built on their recent success at the Cork City School Enterprise Awards by coming first place in the City School section held at the Cork Institute of Technology on March 8th. They represented Cork in the All Ireland final in Croke Park on the 17th of April, 2013.

The product that garnered such praise is The Wacky Workouts Pack: a fun fitness challenge for all age groups and all fitness levels. The pack consists of 3 sets of cards with 52 cards per pack. Each one details a fitness challenge and ranges from beginner to advanced levels. It also includes a journal to monitor your progress and a poster designed by the trainees. The pack is designed to take the fear out of getting fit by providing a fun, cost effective way of getting healthy that is catered for and dictated by the individual.
