The Mayfield Community Training Centre was established in 1985 to cater for the training needs of the Mayfield area. In 1997, the centre moved from its original base in the Mayfield Shopping Centre to larger premises in the local business park where it now occupies a six thousand square foot building. The Centre caters for individuals between the ages of 16 and 21. Entry to the courses is by interview; no qualifications are necessary.
The courses which are offered at the training centre are Home Repair and Maintenance/ Construction Skills, Health and Recreation, Culinary Skills, Business Skills and Multi Skills.
All courses are run on a full time basis. All courses offer certification through the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC). There are also additional classes in Art, Personal Development and Counselling, Literacy and Numeracy, Health promotion and Swimming to support these courses.
The Mayfield Community Training Centre operates a 12 to one ratio. Learners, depending on their age are given a FAS training allowance based on the hours that they attend the training centre. A board of management, which has representatives from members of the community, FAS, the Vocational Education Committee, the Clergy, the Health Board and local schools, govern the M.C.T.C.
