Brenda Stilwell and Roy Keane<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Centre was very proud of the recognition received by art teacher, Brenda Stilwell<\/strong> at the first Mayfield Community Volunteer Awards in the Silversprings Moran Hotel, held on September 26th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Brenda has not only worked with young people at the centre for the past 15 years but has also been involved in manifold community projects including Globalfest, and work done by such local organisations as the Community Development Project, and Newbury House Arts Centre. The award specifically acknowledged Brenda\u2019s work with the organisation Foroige in the setting up of a youth caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Brenda, a native of Cavan, who moved to Mayfield in 1991, said of the night<\/p>\n

\u2019\u00a0I was very surprised to be nominated let alone receive a reward. Time spent with young people is always enjoyable and rewarding and never feels like work.\u00a0It was an enjoyable and positive occasion for Mayfield. It was amazing to see just how much love people have for their area and the people in it. A night to remember!\u2019\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

She was presented with her award by Roy Keane<\/strong>, the former Ireland and Manchester Utd midfielder who at one time was a trainee at the Mayfield Community Training Centre.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s nice to give a bit back,”<\/em> said Keane. “I\u2019m from Mayfield, born and bred here, married here, the kids were christened here, I grew up here.”\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

“Sometimes Mayfield gets a bad reputation,”<\/em> he said. “I think it\u2019s unfair. There are a lot of good people, a lot of good people in the community, and that\u2019s why I\u2019m here tonight, to show my appreciation.”\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

All at the centre would like to congratulate Brenda on her well deserved award and wish her continued success. Manager Maria Lago O\u2019Sullivan<\/strong> had this to say<\/p>\n

\u2018Our most sincere congratulations to Brenda on receiving the Mayfield Community Volunteer Award. This is a much deserved recognition of her time and effort of working with the community. \u00a0The work she does in our CTC is so valued not only by the Board of Management, staff and colleagues but very especially by the young people that come to our centre.<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

We are delighted that the community of Mayfield has recognised her in this way and have honoured her with the first Mayfield Community Volunteer Award.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
