Wacky Workouts

The Mayfield Community Training Centre built on their recent success at the Cork City School Enterprise Awards by coming first place in the City School section held at the Cork Institute of Technology on March 8th. They represented Cork in the All Ireland final in Croke Park on the 17th of April, 2013.
The product that garnered such praise is The Wacky Workouts Pack: a fun fitness challenge for all age groups and all fitness levels. The pack consists of 3 sets of cards with 52 cards per pack. Each one details a fitness challenge and ranges from beginner to advanced levels. It also includes a journal to monitor your progress and a poster designed by the trainees. The pack is designed to take the fear out of getting fit by providing a fun, cost effective way of getting healthy that is catered for and dictated by the individual.
The judges included Olive Loughnane, the Cork born race walker, who has competed in four Olympic Games and is a World Silver Medallist. She would have no doubt been impressed by a product which addresses the issues of obesity and low levels of fitness which have become a concern for many youth workers.
The trainees and their Instructor, Niall McCarthy displayed their product at the Mahon Point Shopping centre on April 11th to great interest from the public and will be doing the same at the KT Centre in Mayfield on Thursday the 18th.
The Mayfield Community Training Centre is a FAS funded centre with courses in Computers, Home Repair and Maintenance, Woodwork, Catering and Health & Recreation and caters to local young people aged 16 to 21. The centre encourages all young people in the area to call in and inquire about a course that might suit them.
